Almost 200 Law Society members turned out on Monday, 11 August to welcome Justices of the High Court to Perth.

Chief Justice Stephen Gageler AC (above) was joined by Justices Gordon, Jagot, Edelman and Beech-Jones at the full-house cocktail function at the Westin.

The visit was the first since 2018, with Law Society President Gary Mack (below left) highlighting that it is both a dynamic and demanding chapter in the Court’s history.

“From grappling with the implications of artificial intelligence in litigation and evidence, to evolving questions in constitutional law and the boundaries of executive power, the Court’s work is more vital – and more closely scrutinised – than ever before,” said Mack.

“These challenges come with great opportunity: to shape the development of Australian law with clarity and courage, and to reinforce public confidence in the integrity and independence of the judiciary.”

The event was sponsored by College of Law, along with supporting sponsors ECU School of Business and Law; UWA Law School; Curtin University; and University of Notre Dame.
