Law Society staff attended the launch of Life Member John McKechnie’s book launch in July.
The recently retired Commissioner of the WA Corruption and Crime Commission and longtime contributor to Brief launched My Life in Crime: a Tapestry of Cases alongside former Attorney General John Quigley and a raft of other guests from within the profession.
Quigley gave an entertaining introduction to the book (including that his puppy had so far managed to eat the covers of two editions, and that we should read into that what we will), which details some of Western Australia’s most prominent criminal cases – many of which he was involved in – and how these cases influenced significant law reform in the state.

McKechnie, who has had a long and illustrious career within the criminal justice system, including as a prosecutor, judge, and commissioner, said he had long been encouraged to write a book and was pleased to have finally done so as he enters retirement.
McKechnie has been a longtime contributor to Brief, largely through his Quirky Cases series. You can read a review of the book here.
