The Unfortunate Woman v Her Well-Respected Killer

June 30, 2025

What a brilliant event at the Old Court House Law Museum in May, held as part of the 2025 Law Week program.

Law Society CEO Kate Wellington led a fascinating discussion on the state of family and domestic violence in Western Australia, inspired by the The Unfortunate Woman v Her Well-Respected Killer exhibition.

Each of the panelists shared their expertise, insights and experience. The Hon Lindy Jenkins discussed legal perspectives and progress over the last 150 years; Gail Beck OAM generously shared lived experience and her hopes for specialist courts in the future; Dr Jennie Gray provided some sobering statistics and realities about service funding gaps; and Mark O’Hare addressed cultural barriers to justice and perpetrator-focused strategies for combatting gender violence in a social media-driven society.

Moments of hope and levity shone through in what was a remarkable exchange of ideas and perspectives.
