World Accreditation Day is an annual international initiative that highlights the role accreditation plays in building confidence in services, systems and organisations.
This year, World Accreditation Day falls on 9 June, promoted globally by Global ACI, with a theme of ‘Innovation, Trust and Sustainability: The Power of Accreditation’. The message is a timely one for the legal profession: accreditation is not simply a badge; it provides a practical framework to demonstrate capability, consistency and accountability in an environment where clients increasingly expect all three.
The Law Society of Western Australia’s Quality Practice Standard (QPS) reflects those same values in a way that is directly relevant to legal practice. QPS accreditation encourages firms to document and review their internal processes, strengthen communication, improve file and risk management, and deliver a more consistent client experience. QPS pursues the very outcomes celebrated by World Accreditation Day: it supports trust through independent review, encourages sustainable practice through disciplined systems, and creates a structure in which firms can innovate with confidence because strong foundations are already in place.
World Accreditation Day is an ideal moment for firms to pause and recognise what accreditation has already contributed to their practice, or to start a conversation about whether accreditation could play a greater role in the future. It need not be formal. A morning tea, coffee cart or shared cake can be enough to bring people together to acknowledge the systems, habits and teamwork that underpin quality legal services. For firms already accredited, it is a chance to celebrate the discipline behind the certificate.
If you are considering QPS for your firm, it is a simple way to begin thinking about its value and usefulness. If you’d like to learn more, the Law Society’s QPS workshops offer an opportunity to hear how the scheme operates in practice. These sessions typically step through the structure of the QPS, explain the accreditation and audit process, outline the benefits for firms, and give attendees the opportunity to ask practical questions about implementation.
To register interest, you can complete the QPS registration form available through the Law Society’s QPS page or email qps@lawsocietywa.asn.au to request further information about upcoming training and workshops.
