Tiffany Cosby interviews Michael Olds, 2026 Law Society Council member, to find out how he likes to spend his time.
What would an ideal weekend for you look like?
A few hours spent examining every blade of grass on my lawn in excruciating detail, a nice long walk to get a coffee and treats with my boys, pizza and a nap.
What’s a skill you’d love to learn?
To play the drums, but first I would need to learn the skill of hand-eye coordination.
Which do you prefer, an infinity pool or a sandy beach? Why?
An infinity pool, because last year I reluctantly agreed to install a pool at home and (to my wife’s delight) it was the best decision I have ever made and I only regret not doing it sooner. I couldn’t possibly prefer a sandy beach after all of that.
Finish this sentence: Sometimes I’m quite …
Hard to break out of a routine. As many lawyers know, competing demands on time often mean managing multiple work commitments, family and social commitments, life admin and housework so a routine helps but I would like to break out of that to be more spontaneous when time permits.
Name one thing on your bucket list
Going into outer space (if Katy Perry can do it, surely I can too).
What is your daily non-negotiable?
Coffee – which feels every bit the stereotype.
Where is a place you’ve always wanted to travel to?
New York City.
Describe your personal ‘brand’ in four words
I wish I knew!
What food will always remind you of your childhood and why?
Mum’s zeje, which is a traditional Croatian dish.
If you had a spare 10 minutes right now, how would you use it?
I would be with my sons playing whatever they wanted to play.
