Brief magazine returns to print with a fresh new look

December 12, 2025

The Law Society of Western Australia’s flagship publication, Brief, is officially back in print.

Designed to complement Brief online, the refreshed print edition offers something different: deeper, evergreen features curated specifically for Western Australian lawyers. While Brief online delivers timely news, commentary and updates, the magazine provides space for reflection, long-form storytelling and the voices shaping our profession.

This edition, which all Law Society members will receive, features High Court Justice Michelle Gordon, UK Master of the Rolls Sir Geoffrey Vos, NSW Chief Justice Andrew Bell, Attorney General Dr Tony Buti, Law Council President Juliana Warner, lawyer and Eurovision performer Danny Estrin and more. It also explores a range of topical issues including AI and the law, wellbeing, and justice in regional WA. Plus, you’ll find more than 40 pages of “Year in Review” moments, celebrating the people, achievements and events that defined 2025 — along with a crossword from Editor-at-Large Michael Douglas crafted to challenge even the sharpest legal minds.

Members may also notice that this edition has two covers. Our cover story profiles New York prosecutor and renowned dance photographer Steven Vandervelden, who recently visited Perth and produced a stunning photographic series featuring some of Western Australia’s most accomplished ballet dancers. When the images came through, the decision to create dual covers felt inevitable.

Hard-copy editions will be landing on desks next week and we welcome your feedback. Brief belongs to our members, and we want it to reflect what matters most to you.
